A bionic system emits small amounts of carbon dioxide, just like we humans do in our exhaled air. It's something mosquitoes instinctively seek out – and allows the trap to attract mosquitoes from a much larger area.

The trap uses UV light at a wavelength that research has shown is particularly effective at attracting mosquitoes. The light simulates body heat and other natural cues that mosquitoes are attracted to.
